Ten kilometres is a great first big running goal. It's long enough to feel like a real achievement, but short enough to prepare for alongside a job and family. The TCS World 10K Bengaluru is listed for Sunday, 25 April 2027, so there's plenty of time to get ready, even if you don't run today.
TCS World 10K Bengaluru 2027: what we know
Race calendars list the event for 25 April 2027. When we published this guide, we couldn't find full 2027 entry details, categories or fees from the organisers. In past years, the event has offered an Open 10K that needed a timing certificate, shorter fun-run options, and virtual races, but the 2027 rules may be different. Check the official race website before you plan.
Don't have a timing certificate? A smaller timed 10K in the next few months could give you one, as well as useful practice. Check the 2027 rules first, and confirm which events count.
Before you start
- Walk first. If you can't yet walk for 30 minutes comfortably, spend a few weeks building up. Our guide to walking more every day will help.
- Get decent shoes. Comfortable running shoes matter more than any gadget.
- Pick three regular slots. Early mornings often work best in Bengaluru, before traffic and heat build.
Your 12-week 10K plan
This plan starts on Monday, 1 February 2027, and uses three sessions a week. Repeat any week that feels too hard. There's no rush.
| Weeks | Dates | Weekday sessions | Weekend session |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | 1–21 Feb | Run 1 minute, walk 2 minutes, for 20–25 minutes | Easy 3 km run-walk |
| 4–6 | 22 Feb–14 Mar | Run 3 minutes, walk 1 minute, for 30 minutes | Easy 4–5 km run-walk |
| 7–9 | 15 Mar–4 Apr | Run 8–10 minutes, walk 1 minute, for 35 minutes | Easy 6–7 km |
| 10–11 | 5–18 Apr | Easy running for 35–40 minutes | 8 km, then 9 km |
| 12 | 19–25 Apr | Two easy 20-minute runs | Race day |
You don't have to run the whole 10K. Walking breaks are allowed, and many people finish faster by using them from the start.
Three rules that keep beginners going
- Go slower than you think. You should be able to speak in full sentences. Our heart-rate zones guide explains why.
- Take rest days. Leave a day between runs at first. See why rest makes you fitter.
- Add strength. Two short sessions of squats, lunges and planks a week can support your legs. Start with our home routine.
Prepare for warmer April mornings
Your plan moves from cooler February mornings into warmer April ones, so expect the same pace to feel harder later on. Drink regularly through the day, slow down on warm mornings, and read our hydration guide before your longest runs.
How a fitness band helps a new runner
- It keeps easy runs easy. Most beginners run too fast at first, and heart rate shows it.
- It shows you're improving. Your heart rate may drop for the same effort, even if you don't feel faster yet.
- It connects sleep and training. You'll see how a late night changes the next morning's run.
- It helps you notice strain. A raised resting heart rate for several days is a good reason to take it easy.

On race day
- Arrive early and allow time for traffic, baggage and toilets.
- Eat what you've practised, and nothing new.
- Start slowly. Crowds and excitement can make your first kilometre much too fast.
- Enjoy it. You've spent 12 weeks getting here.
This week: go for a 20-minute brisk walk three times, and add a few 30-second easy jogs if you feel good.
If you're new to exercise, have a health condition, or have chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness when you exercise, see a doctor before you start.
